New Year Resolutions – 2024

What are New Year Resolutions and why do we have these?
My definition of New Year Resolutions are rhetorical things that we want to leave behind and improve on for the following year.
When I was a kid, my resolutions were pretty silly, to be honest. But as I grew older, I started seeing them differently. They became more about reflecting on the past year—how I felt, what I achieved, and what I wanted to improve. It’s like giving yourself a performance review, you know?
In 2023, I resolved to be more selfless. I realised I was giving too much of myself without getting much in return. But as I tried to be selfless, I found myself feeling guilty when I couldn’t help others. It made me wonder if being selfless was really making me happy. So this year, I’m letting go of that pressure. I came across a quote that really struck a chord with me: “Don’t let idiots ruin your day.” It made me realise that I shouldn’t let others take advantage of my kindness. I’m also focusing on doing things that genuinely make me happy, rather than just going along with what others expect of me.
Another resolution I’ve set for myself is to stop waiting for others to join me in doing the things I love. Whether it’s going camping or trying out new adventures, I’m going to do them, even if it means going solo. I’ve realised that waiting around for others to be available just holds me back from living life to the fullest.
And as I sit here writing this at almost 5 in the morning on the last day of 2023, I’m filled with hope and excitement for the year ahead. Who knows where these resolutions will take me, but I’m ready to find out. Here’s to embracing change, taking risks, and living life on my own terms. Cheers to a new year filled with endless possibilities.
